Valorant is a PC-only game right now, and it won’t change soon. However, Riot Games doesn’t rule out the possibility of bringing his new tactical shooter to some point…
In fact, the developer is currently prototyping a console version, executive producer Anna Donlon told GameSpot. But he made it clear that there is no guarantee that you will ever be able to play Valorant on Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PS4 or PS5.
“There is a way to play this game and there is a way to try this game that we’re not completely sure it will completely translate into a console game,” he said. “If we believe we can offer this experience on those platforms, we will absolutely do it. But we really want Valorant to represent a certain type of gameplay and a certain type of experience.”
The development team is concerned about anyone who feels at a disadvantage because of the platform they are playing on. Many first-person and third-person shooters offer players target control to help assist options compensate for the more precise control they would get with the mouse.
The purpose of assistance is often a controversial topic: some of Fortnite’s best players have recently raised concerns that the purpose assistance in that game was too powerful. For Valorant, who places a strong emphasis on goal and mechanical ability, finding the right balance for controller players could prove to be a problem.
Unless Riot can resolve the problem and any other impediments to providing an authentic Valorant experience on consoles, you shouldn’t increase your expectations of the game on PS4 or Xbox One. However, the idea that Riot is actively trying to figure out if the console versions will work may give you some hope.
