Spellbreak battle royale will be free to play at launch

Spellbreak, easily the most animated Battle Royale game ever created, will launch later this year as a free title for current generation PCs and consoles. Spellbreak is an epic fantasy action spellcasting game where players fight to become an all-powerful battlemage.

Weave spectacular spell combinations, craft strategic builds, and master your environment as you dominate the Hollow Lands solo or with friends in a non-stop quest for survival. The developer Proletariat says that the switch to the free game will ensure that it is easy for players to gather a group of battle mages and start casting spells. If you haven’t heard it yet, Spellbreak takes the concept of Battle Royale and replaces all weapons with incredibly powerful magic spells. You can choose the type of wizard you want to be, then combine elements and spell types for even more cataclysmic effects. Who needs a SCAR or a motorcycle when you can summon a fire tornado or X-Men style ice slide to quickly fly to safety?

Spellbreak battle damage can also fly, speaking of piercing. There’s a great map to explore, full of ruins and treasures, and it’s all presented in a charming shady style reminiscent of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild. That makes the game quite scalable, and at launch it will support cross-play between the PC and all current consoles, including the Nintendo Switch.

On the PC, you can play Spellbreak through the Epic Games Store. The Proletariat has been selling “Founder Packs” for Spellbreak, giving players early access to the game for alpha and beta trial periods. Those packs also include significant amounts of in-game cash that will be available when the game launches.

There’s no specific release date for Spellbreak yet, but the Proletariat says it will be out sometime this year. You can keep up to date with the latest on the official Spellbreak site. If you like the look of flying and screen fusion spells, check out our list of the best anime games for PC.
