New Horizons Update
The next free Summer update for Nintendo’s Animal Crossing: New Horizons is coming July 30th. It adds quite the bevy of new content, including fireworks shows and dreaming. More important, it brings island backup, which means that a player’s island and user data can be backed up online.
In the event of one’s Nintendo Switch being damaged or lost, the save data can be recovered with island backup. As for other content, the fireworks shows will take place every Sunday throughout August at 7 PM. You can also net some new festive items by spending Bells on raffle tickets and design custom patterns for fireworks.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons’ update was previewed in the trailer that showed off the different aspects of this next update coming at the end of the month. Starting in August, we’ll begin seeing fireworks displays in New Horizons along with some sort of attraction called Redd’s Raffle that features the swindling salesman. Like other New Horizons events that happen on a schedule, you can expect these fireworks shows to happen every Sunday throughout August.
if your Switch is lost or damaged, you “may be able to recover your island paradise.” That doesn’t sound like a strong guarantee, but it is better than nothing. If your Switch is lost or damaged, you will have to contact Nintendo Consumer Support about restoring the island and user save data on your new or repaired device.
This feature is separate from the Save Data Cloud functionality offered for select Nintendo Switch games. According to Nintendo, “a function specific to Animal Crossing: New Horizons to move users and save data to another system is planned for later this year” and details will be announced in the future.
Dreaming is a more interesting affair. When you go home and take a nap, you’ll be transported to a different realm. Someone named Luna will allow you to visit other islands in dreams and allows for sharing one’s own as well. Everything done in a dream is unsaved so it’s meant purely for exploration.
Another free update will be coming this Fall so stay tuned for more details.
