Cyberpunk 2077 has sold very well in China. According to Steam’s best-seller list in China, and information gleaned from employee profiles, the upcoming Projekt Red RPG CD has been booked in China more than anywhere else in the world…
The information is courtesy of industry analyst Daniel Ahmad on Twitter, who tweeted about the extensive voice work that CD Projekt Red has employed for the Chinese version of Cyberpunk 2077 before discussing the game’s position as a major release there. Steam’s pre-order for Cyberpunk 2077 was so high that it took first place on Steam’s bestseller list in one day.
Earlier this month, a now-deleted segment was discovered on the LinkedIn account of Darren Ding, director of marketing and public relations for CR Projekt in China, indicating that China’s pre-order “is currently leading the world.” There’s no more context for this, and Ahmad assumes it’s for PC only, as Steam data is easily and easily quantified. Ahmad adds that CD Projekt has a strong reputation in China, and these players will import the PC version through Steam to evade the country’s strict censorship laws.
We received a wave of new information from Cyberpunk 2077 this week as practical advancements were released. Our Jordan Forward enjoyed his four hours with him, writing “As familiar as many of us are to Cyberpunk aesthetics, actually inhabiting that space is a totally different experience, really new, one that CD Projekt Red has absolutely accomplished.” We have a long list of genre options that will be available, the open world game will have a “GTA mode”, and Netflix is producing a Cyberpunk 2077 anime with the studio that Kill La Kill did.
